The Coalition for the Homeless has an Eviction Prevention program which may be able to help with some of your rental arrears. In order to qualify, you must be in court, have a signed court stipulation, and have the ability to pay your ongoing rent.
To schedule an appointment, you must call the Eviction Prevention Hotline at 212-776-2039 on Wednesday mornings beginning at 9:30 am.
Unfortunately, we only have a limited number of appointments available and it may be difficult to get through since there are so many in need. However, we encourage you to call on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am until either you are able to speak to an Eviction Prevention staff member or you hear a recorded message stating that all the appointments have been scheduled for the week. Please note, calling this, or any other number, another day or before 9:30 am on Wednesday does not help to schedule an appointment. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept clients on a walk in basis for Eviction Prevention services.
If you are unable to get through to the hotline, there are a few alternate resources we suggest you try to contact:
- Housing Court Answers is an agency that keeps track of the availability of Eviction Prevention funds and intake procedures at agencies throughout the City and can be reached 212-962-4795 Tuesday through Thursday. They also produce information tables on housing court and have resources for tenants on their website which may help you prepare to go to court.
- Homebase: You can also call 311 and ask to be connected to your local Homebase office. Homebase is a city funded program that may be able to help with Eviction Prevention services for some families at risk.
- One Shot Deal through the Human Resources Administration. You can make an application at your local job center. If you have submitted an application, you should follow up with your assigned case manager regarding its status or ask to speak to an HRA representative in housing court.
