More than 111,500 NYC students were homeless at some point during the last school year – and if things don’t get better, nearly one-in-seven public school kids will experience homelessness before completing elementary school. As family incomes are stretched extremely thin, homeless families simply can’t afford many of the basic items their kids need for school, like backpacks, notebooks, binders and other supplies.
The Coalition’s annual Project: Back to School partners with companies, law firms, schools, and caring individuals to collect more than 4,000 NEW backpacks and fills them with all the supplies a student needs to start the school year.
What You Can Do:
- Host a drive for new backpacks and school supplies at work or school. Download the flyer.
- Make a donation to help us purchase supplies.
- Volunteer to help sort supplies and stuff backpacks.
- Purchase new items and drop them off at any Manhattan Mini Storage or participating location. Click here for a list of all locations.
